Default Spots On Chrome Trim

Hi Everyone,

I just hand washed my RX350 for the first time since getting it in November of last year. I have been using the touch-less car washes with no brush in the winter time. Anyway, I noticed a haze and spots on all the chrome accent pieces on the outside of the vehicle and thought it was just from the touch-less not getting the car as clean as it could be. Turns out I was wrong. All the chrome has these water spot / filmy spots on it. Any advice on how to remove these?

Hopefully they aren't pitted...which trim are we looking at, is that the door trim or the hatch trim?

I would try a clay bar first and see how that works. If that doesn't work I would try a mild plastic cleaner like Plexus, or Meguiars PlastX (which is fairly aggressive actually). Don't use any type of metal polish because its not metal, that trim is just plastic...

My fear is that they may be pitted, in which case replacement would be the only cure....if its the hatch trim then I'm sure its not pitted...

That is the trim on the rear hatch. It is also on the lower trim on the bottom of the doors and on the Lexus symbol on the back. Strangely it is not on the trim around the windows. I think I may take it to the dealer and see if they know if this is a known issue or not. For something that is only five months old, it looks terrible.

p.s. I of course will NOT let them wash the vehicle when I am there.

The trim around the windows is actually metal usually, doesn't surprise me that its not on that trim...

I bet it will come off with a little polish...

Try this! Worked perfect for my chrome trim. Make sure you but some elbow behind it.
