Default Small Scratch due to side-sweeping a concrete

Hi,

My wife's 2011 RX350 had a mishap around the "low" concrete curb when making a turn the other day. The damage was only on the the rear passenger door where it has a main scratch of about 0.5in in diameter and it is down to the primer mainly and some metal.

I have talked to a few body shops and they suggest a refinishing of a door panel which I am hesitant to go ahead. I know the scratch of this size won't go away if I just touch it up but it is actually a very small one compared to the size of a door.

Do I have any option? I can accept the scratch not completely go away but as long as it won't rust, I can live with it.

Thanks.

You should try Dr. ColorChip. It took care of some chips on my hood great.

Or try paint oxidation remover. It might take a lot of rubbing, but it would cover up the bare metal spot. That's what I do...does not look showroom though...

Turtle wax Oxidation remover, 5 buck bottle @ Wally World. Do it in the shade. One time I was restoring some paint on a 98 GMC Suburban and I got a very nice burn on my finger from the heat + the friction...like I said before, the oxidation remover doesn't clean it up completely, it won't look new, but it's "good enough" for me...
DO NOT get the circular Turtle wax oxidation remover...it is like sandpaper. Does a good job on heavily oxidized clear coat and even peeling clear coat but on a nice RX like the one You have, I wouldn't get it. The correct bottle is the tall bottle. Can't miss it...

If the paint is gone you need to add some paint.

If the dark marks are something left on the paint from the scrape then a polish may take that off. I believe the primer for your color is a light grey so that mark appears, from the photo, to be something on the paint. I'd suggest you start by trying a compound, like Meguiar's Ultimate compound, available at most automotive stores and Walmart.

You may also want to look for a airbrush painter who could feather that small area.
