Default Self-fixing problems?

Alright, I have a '96 SC400 with 101k miles, and I have read up a lot about these cars. I know the problem with the power steering, and mine started making that groaning sound, and figured it was a leaky pump, or it was leaking onto my alternator. So I was driviing on the freeway and when going like 70mph, I let off the gas and this sickening groaning/knocking sound started. I took the car home, and the very next day I took it to the dealership, and on my way out there, I noticed that the groaning from the steering had stopped, and I never got a chance to go over 70 on the way to the dealership, so I figured that problem was still going. When I got there, after dealing with incompetent people they finally took my car, and the next day they told me they were done, and that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They charged me $40, and sent me on my way. Now, when I'm goin on the freeway, there is no sound, and the steering's fine. Is there any logical explanation for why this is happening? please let me know if you have any ideas, and If i should still be worried.

Check to see if you are low on power steering fluid.

nope, a few days earlier I topped it off, and the problem continued until the day I took it in.
