first make a duplicate layer of the car you wanna lower
then make a selection similar to this on the TOP layer,

I drew some red circles to indicate where you would add shadows on this document.
hope this helps, if I wasnt clear on something dont hesitate to ask
thanks a lot
this is fun, today i lowered a 300zx tt and i added rims to my ls
in the first pic, how did u just cut the layer, the way i tried was long and tideous by deleting the background and making the picture twice, then importing the layer, your way looks much easier, if i just knew how to only cut the layer
1. use lasso/polygonal tool(whichever u prefere) and trace out the car, with the background taht is above it, excluding the rims
2. copy and paste the selection, so that you will have 1 layer(lets call it layer 1)of the car's body and background over the original picture.
3. Select the move tool and move layer 1 up or down to where u want it.
4. If necessary, use eraser tool to erase parts of layer 1, exposing the original wheels.
5. Merge layer 1 down, and crop picture so the top of original background is not showing.

yeah there are some good tutorials on that site.As far as making the perfect selection around the wheels wells, I just use the plygon lasso tool and make small increments as i go along , tracing the shape i need. You hve to zoom in real close to get it precise though dont forget.
