You are right. At 60k miles and some cold weather, I started getting a clunk over bumps on the right rear side. I would have never guessed but it was a failed strut/shock. It was replaced with an OEM unit and cost $250 Cdn ($170 USD) at my local lexus dealer. I didn't do the other side and there is no noticable difference in handling with one new OEM strut and the original on the left side. I'm at 80k miles now and the left side is still fine and dandy.
My Soarer does that when it's warming up as well. Apparently alot of the guys here in Australia also have that problem, and have rectified it by fitting new polyurethane (or nolathane? can't remember) bushes to the lower control arms.
