I've Just Purchased my first Lexus, its a Black on Black GS 350 (No Mark Levinson). I currently own a 2003 Mercedes SL 500 and a 2006 Range Rover HSE, both with Asanti Rims (20" on Mercedes) & (24" on Range Rover), they are both chrome wheels. I've had a lot of trouble with leaks on the 3 piece wheels so i've decided to go to a simple one piece wheel made by Zenetti called Fives. I've seen them on the Lexus IS through this site. My dilemma is i don't know whether i should go with Chrome or Black rims. Here are 2 links to give you an example of each rim on an IS, i have yet to see them on a GS.
I would really appreciate any insight anyone may have on these rims and which color i should go with.
My Tire Setup is going to be Nitto or Falkens, Front: 245/35/20 Rear: 275/30/20. From what i understand this is the most common setup with the least rubbing and not worrying too much about bending the rims on rougher roads. If anyone has any input on which tire brand and setup i should use i would greatly appreciate as well.
Although black on black seems played out I think with those rims it would look nice since there's alot of space in between the spokes. I'm almost positive you will get rubbing in the front but heating the plastic and pushing it back is the best solution. I'm also gonna go with the 245/35 and 275/30 because 245/30 and 285/25 just seems too thin. Post some pics once you got the wheels and keep us posted if you get it dropped
i don't really recommend which wheel looks better, after all that's personal choice and you are the one to see which style fits you
but i just want to say, 3 piece wheels don't mean they are easier to leak. blame it on the brand and quality if anything. i have had 6 sets of 3 piece wheels over the past 6 yrs, zero leak. i hope this can open up doors for you on your choices
if it were me i would definitely go with the chrome, it seems more classy to me, those rims are really nice btw. yea the black imo is played out, the chrome is timeless haha.
First, Asanti has been notorious for leaky wheels. So dont base buying 3 piece wheels of that. I have had 3 piece wheels on my Tahoe 24's (&Swiss by Modular Society) and they were awesome, no leaks.
Now I just received my set of 360 Forged 3 Piece wheels called the Split Seven.
My car is Smokey Granite, and I went with Brushed Centers Chrome Lip.. Classy and simple.
On a black car. I would do something a bit more aggresive, if its your style.
GLoss black lip, matte black center or Matte Black Center Chrome lip...
just my.02
Check out 360forged.com on Flickr.com for pics of bas a$$ wheels.
I always prefer silver for wheels. Chrome is too flashy and black (to me at least) looks terrible. But it's your money, so buy what sparks your interest.
Here is a Rim that would look good IMO on your car...Its also an example of the silver with the chrome lip as others are mentioning. I like the look and was talked into this from the members on the 2IS side. I couldn't be happier and I was originally going to get the Black rims. They both look good and its choice. I am very happy with the rims. Hope this helps out more!
I like the Lexus liquid graphite color myself, kind of looks like titanium. But If it was between chrome and black wheels on a black car. There is no question the black would look better. Everybody and their brother have chrome rims and black on black is a classic, it will never be played out.
I just order and received 360Forged 3 Piece Brushed with Chrome Split Seven.
I think that is the way to go... always classy and clean... I will have them on the car today.
