Default 50k for '07 GS 350 AWD w/ Navi a good Deal?

I'm looking to buy a new GS and I was able to agree on a black on black with Navi and some special paint protective coating for 50k out the door. Is this a good deal or do you think it's worth my time to haggle over the price a bit more?

What is the price of the car, not this "out the door" thing?

The sticker price is $50,599 fully loaded plus $599 for the paint protectant. I'm in KY so sales tax is 6%.

off the top of my head...

if you can get the car for an "OTD" price equal or less than MSRP...

deal is okay...

doesn't mean you can quibble a bit though...

I would at the minimum tell them to also throw in the 10,000 Mile Service
in for FREE...

When you think in terms of out-the-door price, you're setting up yourself for a rip off. You should always look only at the car price relative to the MSRP and dealer invoice, without getting distracted by fixed fees like taxes and registration fees.

First of all, the $599 paint protectant fee is a pure profit rip-off for the dealer.

Looking at carsdirect.com, a GS350 AWD with Navi with MSRP of $50,600 would have dealer invoice in the area of $46,000. If you're paying $50,000 including a 6% tax, your car purchase price is somewhere in the area of $47,200, which is about 3% over dealer invoice. For a Lexus in high demand that is a good price.

But if you don't want to be ripped off, do ask the dealer for what is your car purchase price. Also ask them if the are any documentation fees in addition to that "out-the-door" price.

Good luck!

That's only true for states with fairly high tax rates. You live in California, so it applies. But I live in Virginia, where the tax rate on new cars is 3%.

In any case, it's always a bad idea to focus on the out-the-door price. There is no one definition for what this term means.

I went back to the dealer tonight to pick up the car and finalize the deal, and wrote them a check for $49,100 with Navi package, tint, and protectant. The actual price of the car was little over 46K before taxes and fees so I think I got a great deal. It's going to take me awhile to go through the manual but I'm looking forward to it.

I have another question. The dealer is offer a 5 year warranty on wheels and tires in case of blowouts and wheel damages for $699. I think this is a good deal considering the runflats are premium tires, or should I just purchase road hazard when I purchase new tires?

I suggest you ride on the run-flats and decide if you want to keep them. Personally, I hated the ride and swapped them out after the first week. The tires I got - Continental ContiExtremeContact - come with the manufacturer's 2-year hazard warranty. For other tires you can just buy the hazard insurance from the retailer or Tire Rack, if you buy tires from them.

It is extremely rare to damage your wheel so badly that you'd need to replace it. It is also extremely rare to damage your tire in such a way that it can't be patched up. It costs $10 to patch a tire at Costco; $15-20 at other tire places.

My personal opinion is that you'd be wasting $700. I'd buy such insurance if it were below $100, but no more than that.
