Climate Control Bulb Question
Hi,
I have most lights burned out and am getting ready to grab my knees pay the $10ea for the 84999-60360 light bulbs for the project. My LCD screen is also starting to blacken.
I have an aftermarket Radio
I've read this closed thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...ixed-it-2.html a few times, and don't understand how only 6 bulbs are enough to replace what's in there. Below I list all A/C control buttons/LCD screen which are lit. Ordinarily I'd just tear it apart myself to find out, but don't want to be in a position in which I have to order more after I remove and disassemble.
It looks like there are:
4 lit buttons on top
I've heard in this thread that 3 bulbs illuminate the LCD
3 lit buttons on bottom
I just wanted to confirm that 6 bulbs light up all this stuff ? Are there bulbs that illuminate more than one button ?
Thanks
Buttons listed left to right, top to bottom:
Top:
Front defrost button
Rear Defrost button
Free air or Recirc Button
AC Button
LCD - 3 bulbs?
Off Button
Fan speed Button
Mode Button

There are three bulbs that light up the LCD screen and those bulbs are soldered into the circuit board. There are another 3 bulbs that you just twist on and off with a screw driver and those bulbs light up all of the buttons.

No problem! I think there's actually a thread on here where someone took pretty detailed pictures of the climate control taken apart. I actually posted a thread changing them to LED's but I didn't take pictures.
Here's that thread I was telling you about. It's better to have a visual aid.

Thanks - that helps
So I'm going to order 3 of these http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...l-led/221/999/ for the buttons.
And the remaining 3 for behind the LCD Screen I have to get the from the dealer ( 84999-60360 ) since I'll have to remove the bulbs from the base, straighten out the wires on the bulb, then solder, correct ?

I looked at the pic of the bulbs on the superbrightled site and it looks like the pins/wires may be long enough to use for the LCD bulbs that have to be soldered instead of using the dealer parts ? Sorry for all these questions - I want to make sure I have the right bulbs before I take the unit out..thanks

Those bulbs should be fine for the buttons. As for the LCD when I did mine I used these bulbs: http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...-mcd/252/1179/ You'll need 3 of them, but you can not just solder then in and expect them to work. You will need a resistor for each LED so that the bulbs don't burn out. You'll need three 220 Ohm 1/8 Watt Resistor for the LED bulbs. You can find these at Radioshack for like 30 cents. All you need to do now is solder the bulb to the resistors, and then the bulb and resistors to the board. If they don't work at first you just have to flip the bulbs around since they're polarity sensitive. And just a side note, the bulbs will have hot spots in the LCD.

Screen
You said your screen is starting to blacken, these screens go bad after a while. It might be that the screen it self may need to be replaced. If you look closely at it, do you see parts of the screen has bad areas?

I just saw the mailman deliver my new LCD screen. To be honest, I thought the illumination came from the screen itself. (now of course I know it comes from the 3 lights behind it).
I do, however, have a pea-sized area on the screen that has started to blacken. I'm not 100% sure if I'll do the screen this time when I have the unit out - I'm not sure how fast the 'black' parts spread, though , so I may.
Thanks Mike for the info on the LCD's/resistors...
I'm going to replace BOTH window regulators this weekend and if I have time do the lights afterward...
Thanks for everyone's help with this.

Screen
FYI, I just replaced my screen 2 weeks ago, REMEMBER to remove the films on both sides of the new screen or you'll have to repeat what I did and pull it all apart again!

Ouch - thanks for that tip...
I have the lights on the way. They should be here by the time I finish replacing both of my window regulators so I'll start the AC lights after that, provided I have any fingers left.
