Default Any easy way to replace stater? 1994 ls400

I know that my starter is going bad for my 94 ls400 because of the deep noise that comes from the engine when the engine starts to turn, then it goes back to its normal sound. But, i changed a starter on my 92 ls400 a year ago and i had to remove EVERYTHING, and that took about 2 days before i got it fixed. Is their any other way to get to the starter without removing my entire engine?

There is no such thing as an easy way in the 1uZ when it comes to changing the starter unless you have couple of guys working with you.....

True, but it doesn't just apply to the starter. There is no easy way to change ANYTHING on these cars, as I have found out. (Heater core was the last "adventure") I haven't had to do the starter yet, but I read alot about it.

These cars are very easy to work on. all you need is a 10, 12, 14, 17 and an occasional 19 and you could practically take the entire car apart. As far as a heater core i don't recall a single one that i have done and not had to rip the car 1/2 way apart. The starters last longer in the pit of the v and that is the reason lexus designed it that way. I am guessing your car has 210k miles and the starter is oem. Good luck post any questions if you have them regarding the starter.

I was wondering why they would choose such a lousy location.

I have done both of my 99's last year, 2 months apart. and it is not really hard to do, just time consuming. Now I didnt have to remove the entire starter, just moved it out of the way so I could replace the contacts in the solenoid with the starter mount still in place. the starters hardly ever go bad.

i will point out that the 98-00 are a little easier to work on as they dont have EGR components getting in the way

I had my starter replaced and I had asked them if there was an easier way to do to save on labor and they said no (of course they would because it's more $ for them)...but I have talked to many mechanics and they are all, ironically, in consensus that on the 1st gen lexus engines, the starter is always a pain to fix...

Easiest way is to take a couple of extra shifts at work and pay someone else to do it.

yes and no....
for me, I like to be able to take things apart, spot fault, correct it and reassemble and enjoy the results..... mechanical things I understand and can work with them.
Electronics is a whole different thing to me, and I have to have help/guidance in those areas. and that is why I retired.... cars got smarter than me...
smile.. it was a short trip....
