How To: Build and Hardwire an Auxillary Input to OEM Stereo
I became a member of this forum, just to comment on this; Thx to the creator and every one who have supported this.
I have installed this WITHOUT the use of relays. All you need is:
2 x Speaker wire to RCA
1 x RCA Coupler
Ipod Cable
I got the idea from an RX300 post on this topic. I did this without of what I would consider to be the "hard work".
I used a premade 18 Gauge RCA speaker wire sold at Radio Shack. It's about 25 ft. long but that's all they had in the higher quality for $8.99. I also bought a set of RCA couplers for $4.99.
I got the Ipod cable which I got from Ebay for $13.99
Ebay title - Aux input 5v ipod touch nano iphone 3g 3gs 2 x rca a39
Ebay seller - Uneeksupply
(It works in my Ipod photo and Iphone 3GS - highly recommend it any of this ebay seller's cables). That's all you need to do this!
I cut the speaker wire 1ft. since it has RCA's on both ends, you have your two RCA's with wiring and without the need to solder. Just splice them into your respective color wire, put on the couple, then hook in the ipod cable and you're done. Quite Simple with even minimal technical savvy!
*The trick with going around the relays is to flip a CD over in your changer, so it errors out, or make a CD of silence. This way there is no bleed in sound and only the ipod comes through when you wish to use it. The changer is still completely functional and switching to a "working cd" acts as your "switch" if you will.
Most would say it's best to use to the relays and to make/solder all your connections. I would agree, but would like to put this out here to the many people who have posted for a less technical/skilled solution.
Also, a poster commented that there was no "boom" through the ipod as in the bass and overall strength of the sound was lessened. This is because the negative and positive wiring is backwards causing phasing. When it's done properly it sounds every bit as good as a CD.
Thanks for helping me and I hope this helps someone else
Only issue I encountered was static while charging, so I removed the fuse. I can't charge, but zero static.

Alright guys, I finished my installation. Put the on/off button (with green led) and 3.5mm jack on a leather Kuda phonebase.

Now this was done on a 2nd Gen GS. When I'm in CD-mode and I switch to Aux, it obviously switches to Aux. Now when I'm in radio-mode and I switch to Aux, radio keeps running. However as soon as the Aux-in is used, the FM mutes and Aux comes through. So I can listen to Aux through the radio-mode.

So has anyone got this to work on a GS 400 with Nakamichi. I have looked through the whole thread and found a couple of posts from people with the GS 400 and Nakamichi but no proof that they got it to work.
hi lads new to the site i was just wondering i have a iphone 4 and like the idea of keeping the original radio i was going to do a hard wire install and was wondering have any off you used the iphone with the cable out of the bottom instead of phone i liked the idea if charging aswell thanks

hi lads had a bit of time to spare today so connected my iphone up using a single relay its one of those that switches over 4 contacts at the same time i had a few lying around connected up a phone cause it all i had lying aound amazed with the sound , loads of bass . through a set of hids lights in aswell
Alright, so I put together the cluster of relays for my 1998 2GS without a problem. I spliced into the harness between the CD changer and the Amplifier for the speakers and used the ACC from between the headunit and amp. I obviously grounded it and put in a switch. My multimeter shows that I'm getting 12v from ACC, so power isn't an issue.
But the problem is that I'm not getting any sound from any aux input, including my laptop, when I use an RCA to 3.5mm cable. Same goes for the ipod and the right ipod cable.
The CD changer works perfectly until I flick the switch. The system does switch to aux but there's no sound. I've double checked the connections and the RCA jacks...any reason why this shouldn't be working? Multimeter only confirms that the switch-over works.
My multimeter is also showing that when the switch if off and music is playing perfectly fine from the CD changer, the ground wire has 12v. Is it normal for the ground from all pin 86's to have 12v when the switch is off, at all times? I thought the relays would switch source once powered and once the ground is opened via the switch. I know the switch over works because the CD sound output completely stops but the headunit still shows CD.
Here's a picture of the current cluster...since pics bring attention...

As you can see, I decided not to solder the power and ground wires. They're definitely separated.
