Default Extended Warranty Question

I have a 2007 GS350 with 42500 miles on it and I am considering buying an extended warranty. If I buy one it will most likely be Lexus. I got a quote from Warranty Direct online and they were calling my phone just about as quick as the email quote took to hit my blackberry. Makes me nervous when a company seems so desperate to sell something. Anyway, my question is if it is worth it to buy the warranty at all. I put alot of miles on the car every year and will probably hit the 100k mark sometime in late 2011. I plan on keeping the car as long as it will hold up (last car was 98 accord with 180k before the trans. quit). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you buy the car new? Only the original owner can extend the Lexus warranty before it gets to 50,000 miles.

I went with the standard 3 year CPO, mistakenly believing that I could up it as long as I made the decision prior to reaching 50k. Had I known, I would have gotten 5 years as I was buying the car.

Some people believe they're a waste of money.

I wouldn't use warranty direct, I'd use the "real" Lexus plan. Try a quote from your dealer, but odds are you'll get much better deal from Toby Rivers (at a Lexus dealership in Lousiana... will sell to anyone, anywhere. Just Google his name and Lexus). I don't endorse him for any other reason than his price was ~$500 cheaper than what Sewell or Park Place Lexus in Dallas. It's all the same in the end: Lexus USA extended service plan (warranty).

I bought my warranty from Warranty Direct when I initially purchased my car. The dealership (Stealership) wanted to charge me $1,500 more than Warrantydirect.

I also own a 2008 Toyota Sequoia that i also purchased a warranty from warrantydirect. I'm a huge fan of Toyota's quality, but these new configurations that Toyota brought to the market place (GS350 Motor & Sequoia Motor) might not be bulletproof like the Camry and Pickup motor.

I also worry about the electrical issue that may arise due to the push button start and NAV screen, which could end up costing a arm and a leg.

I guess it's just a piece of mind for each individual.

read this previously posted thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...gs300-awd.html Contact Troy (fd-warranty), and you will be set. Waiting to finalize everything with him now, the quote I got was Extended Platinum 3yr/50k for around $1,400 total - directly from Lexus financial. That is exactly half of what I was quoted by my dealership.

I think an extended Warranty is an excellent idea. Mechanically, as long as you don't abuse the car and change the fluids when required (or sooner), you'll go for 300,000 miles. But as for the electronics,... Buy the warranty to cover the electronics.

Why buy aftermarket warranty when you can buy the real thing from Troy? Its the same price.

yeah. the electricals/mechanicals are pretty flimsy on this car.

if your side mirrors stop working, that's $2000.

on this car, it seems to be a consistent defect.

I just got quoted 2400 for their platinum warranty. I think it was 7 years or 100,000 miles. while this is a nice car, it has been in the dealrship more than my grand prix. I have not paid a dime for all my trips to lexus but its getting to be a pain in the axx. I am considering it, but i think 2400 is a bit steep.

If you have a lot of problem with your GS, I would sell it, not get extended warranty.

I had a very bad experience with my last Toyota extended warranty. Maybe Lexus is different, maybe not. I bought my new car extended warranty (top plan, platinum) through Toyota dealer A. Years later I moved so I have to use the extended warranty at Toyota dealer B, and boy, this dealer does not grand any of the warranty issues I brought the car in. They always asked me to pay for the full repair prices and told me the problems were not warranty related... Go figure! I am really hesitated to purchase any extended warranty through the Toyota/Lexus dealers not knowing I will be scammed again.

(Toyota dealer B: Fremont Toyota, CA)

Actually, the Toyota / Lexus warranty is one of the better one as far as coverage.
