Can I replace TPMS sensors with standard Valve Stems?
This weekend I accidently broke off a TPMS stem on a rear wheel. The TPMS locknuts had been loose and I guess I overtightened it.
I took the wheel to Tire Kingdom where they replaced the TPMS sensor with a regular valve stem. The tire has leaked 20 psi in three days. Not too good.
Do I need special valve stems if I take the TPMS out of service or can I use the "regular" valve stems found in most wheels?
I am planning on changing the stock wheels to aftermarket wheels in the next 6 months and was going to replace the 6 year old TPMS sensors at the same time.
PS. The TPMS disable instructions are awesome. I was done in 5 minutes and at least don't have to deal with the chiming and light.
