XM Radio install
Ive looked through numerous posts, however, have been unsuccesful in finding this answer - I would like to install the Delphi Xpress RC using a FM direct connect adapter. What this does it plugs directly into the stock radio FM input. THe question i have - where is the input for the antenna to the ML system, in the trunk or behind the head unit?
If the plug is indeed behind the head unit, can anyone provide instructions on how to get to that plug.
THanks,
Kunal

So how is the car's antenna inputted into the ML system? I just dont want to spend $200 on the vais system or any other system at that matter. The quality of FM modulation is horrible, however, If i can hard wire using the FM direct connect, it would be good enough as the quality of XM is around 100 kbs (similar to FM, i think)
Thanks.
Thanks.

02Ku,
Yes, the FM connector is on the back of the ML stereo head unit. Detailed removal instructions can be found through a quick search. The Reader's Digest version is...
1) open armrest (upper and lower)
2) pop seat heater control module out, unplug, and set aside
3) open the stereo door
4) put the car in N or lower
5) lift the wood center console up and back...don't pull too hard, the wire for the stereo-door button is short
6) set this out of the way (if you need to, you can remove the stereo-door button (carefully) to get some more clearance)
7) remove the two big lower screws holding the radio in.
8) remove the climate control module (you can grab it with both hands and carefully pull it loose
9) remove the two big uppper screws holding the radio in
10) CAREFULLY remove the stereo
There are several sharp edges on the stereo unit itself and the leather surrounding the center console is VERY thin. It's very easy to teap/rip/scratch the leather while pulling the stereo out.
There are 3 or 4 multi-pin connectors on the back of the stereo, plus the antenna connector.

Habious,
Thanks for the info..i actually just found this information through google. Now i just hope that the antenna connector is the standard size. In theory this should work. Thanks.

LOL. When he gets this done?
He posted that he was "going" to do it...2 years ago! I'm betting he's finished with the project.
