A very cheap and easy mod to make your low beams a little brighter is switching the 9006 low beam wire harness and bulb with a 9005 high beam harness and bulb. these harness can be found at any autoparts store for under $5 each and all you have to do is cut the two wires connecting the stock 9006 harness and solder the new 9005 harness wires. it took me about 30min to complete this mod and i am very happy with the results.
A 9006 bulb is usually around 51w and a 9005 bulb is around 65w.
They sell kits that are 9006 to 9005 plug and play, but they are about $25.
Since I have been poaching some information on this board, I figure I'll throw something back. Instead of using a 9005, try a Toshiba/Harrison 9012 HIR lamp. Here is a link to a lighting faq I wrote that explains this in full.
I realized when reading the FAQ, I have not updated the prices in a while. The HIR bulb prices have dropped in the past few years, they are about $25 each from hirheadlights.com and some John Deere dealers have been selling them for less than $20 each.
Did anyone have experience with GE's NightHawk headlights? They seem to be reasonably priced. GE's illustration seems to indicate brighter projection and further in the distance.
you don't need to change the actual wiring harness if you don't want to.
take a 9005 bulb, and cut the middle tab off. also file down (using an xacto knife) the two grooves going down the inside of the housing. it will now fit. sorry for the vague description, no time to explain in detail, google it.
65watts without a silver cap.. compared to a 9006 55w with a silver cap.
