My 1997 LS400 will start but then shut off HELP
I have a 1997 Lexus Ls400 i just bought, the car has 68k on it. When i go to crank it it will start run for a few seconds and then shut down like you are cutting off the power, Some times it takes a ton of turnning to get it to go some times it fires right away but reguarless it runs for only a few seconds. you can rev it to 7k or gradually accelerate or let it idle but you got about 3 seconds of running

check your airfilter to see if its clogged, if thats good i would suspect the sparkplugs, wires or the fuel is being restricted either by the fuel filter, the fuel regulator, the injectorscould be clogged and theres remote possibility that your pump isdefective but i doubt that. also you might want to try putting some fuel injector cleaner in your tank i recommend the b-12 chemtool which you can get in any auto store. try thjese things and let us know what happens

I doubt VERY seriously if it is basic maintenence. Plugs or wires would be more erratic and allow the car to run but poorly. Yours starts and runs and then dies. That is electrical or possibly the fuel pump itself. Before throwing parts and money at the problem check for codes. Check fuel pressure.

Car has 86lbs of fuel pressure when key is on. No matter what you do it cuts off after a few seconds You can hold the gas to the floor or let it idle you have between 2-3 seconds. It is like some one pulls the plug from a vacum instant shut down. then as soon as the car stops it will start back up again and do the same thing. No vaccum lines looked touched or altered

Sounds very much like a bad MAF or something related. Possibly ECU of course as well.
Bad TPS, IAC, O2, IAT none of that will cause it to start then shut off especially if you have it floored and it acts the same.
