Default 2006 GS may have bigger engines than expected

Well it's been mentioned here a couple times, but in an Autoweek article posted today, they said that the GS will arrive with a 3.5liter V6 and a 4.6 liter V8. And a hybrid GS450h to follow later.

With the GS450h designation that would seem to note the non hybrid engine has a lower displacement. The RX330->RX400h so GS430->GS450h. Seems like the current logic so I wouldn't be too sure.

Well, I just started to ask the question "Why isn't the 3.3 (from ES) in the new GS?"

But I think I answered my own question. The 3.3 is a V6, and the current 3.0 is an I6.

Not true... The new engine in the GS is a V6 as well.

The current 3.3 V6 is in fact almost the same as the prev. 3.0 V6 (camry/ RX/ ES), but then tuned for US taste. This engine is not powerful, sporty enough.

i dont mind not having the 3.3 in the gs even if it was to fit cause its slow, even being a 3.3 and newer, my 98 gs drives so much better than my moms 2005 es330, engine feels smoother, faster, and both cars get horrible gas mileage

The 3MZ-FE in the ES and the new 3GR-FSE 3.0L V6 in the new GS are two totally different unrelated motors. All of the MZ series of engines 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE V6's are mainly fastened to the FWD Camry/ES/Avalon/Solara/Sienna/RX330/Highlander platforms.

the 400 of RX400h doesn't really have to do with displacement, as the engine itself is still the same 3.3 liter V6. Take it for what it's worth. I believe they take their information from filings from the US Patent Office. So I can't think of why they would register for names when they won't use them.

Word from the IS forum has the 3.5 liter V6 pumping over 300 HP.... the member seems to have gotten the info from a dealer event.

Since they're all switching to V6's and 8's, does this mean they are no longer going to develop an inline engine?

Yup... so long inline-6, which is kinda sad, because I always thought the inlines were so smooth.

yup, no japanese companies are doing i6 anymore coz' of tighter laws i believe. that's why toyota no more i6, and same with nissan (thus the new v6 in the skyline)

But they're not that smooth really. A GS400/430 is SOOOOO much smoother than the GS300. It's quieter too.

V-8s and V-6s are more compact and cheaper to make than I-6s. They also allow more flexibility with design, such as sloping hoods, so designers like em better. I am not saying V-6s are better than I-6s. I would prefer a I-6. V-6s are so damn pedestrian.
