Team Lexus captures win at Road America. Battle for the 2000 Manufacturers’ Championship heats up.
BALTIMORE, Maryland – Team Lexus captured their second victory, the team’s first this season, at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. |
The Saturday afternoon Motorola Cup race was delayed and shortened due to torrential rains which hampered track activities for most of the day. The #9 GS 400 driven by Baltimore native Chuck Goldsborough and Rick Fairbanks of Greenville, South Carolina battled throughout the two hour race to take the top spot on the podium.
“The Lexus was perfect today,” said Goldsborough. “We certainly had a good fight going there in the end…Rick gave me a great car at the half-way point and the [pit] crew did a fantastic job.” A mid-race caution brought a majority of the field in for their mandatory driver changes. This set the stage for an all out run for the finish in the final hour. “We got the yellow during our pit window and you can’t ask for much more than that, “, said crew chief Ray Rachuba. “We held off the BMW’s late in the race…I couldn’t be happier with the team’s performance this weekend.” |
