|Over the 4th of July holiday weekend while most people were hitting the beach, Team Lexus (www.teamlexus.com) of Baltimore, MD was hitting the tarmac.|
At the Summit Point Hyper-Fest show, the crew from Team Lexus rolled out their monster orange IS300 track car. The Lexus backed crew, who’s cars are normally set up for track events, made it’s presence for the first time on a drift course. Hyper-Fest, the brainchild of Mike DeFord and the folks from NASA (National Auto Sport Association), host the US Drift Nationals at 5 Hyper-Fest events across the country. This was the first drift event that Team Lexus has participated in, and from the looks of it, they will be back for more. Even though the IS300 is set up for more grip on the road coarse, driver Ryan Hampton managed to place just out of the top 3 in the competition. Ironically, Matt Martin, a 19-year-old staff member from Team Lexus took top honors in his girlfriend’s 240SX. We’re not sure if she found out he borrowed the car yet, but the staff at Hyper-Fest did warn Matt about the excess grass in the calipers could be a dead giveaway.
Just to show who the veteran driver is, Ryan Hampton finished on top the very next weekend at the Hyper-Fest event at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA. Team Lexus will be a regular attendee at future Hyper-Fest events, so look for them at the next event held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC, August 23rd and 24th.
