Question of the Week: How Will Lexus Live Down This Heresy in Texas?
At the 2013 Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado, Lexus sponsored a seminar entitled “Don’t Mess with Texas–Unless You’re Lexus!,” to “challenge the status quo of Texas cuisine and introduce attendees to a progressive approach to Southwestern cooking.”
Generally, Texas and anything “progressive” go together about as well as orange juice and toothpaste, but I’m sure chefs Bruno Davaillon & Anthony Giglio came up with tasty takes on some Lone Star staples. Obviously, this tagline was conceived before the announcement that the company was packing up and moving from Torrance, California to Plano, Texas back in April. Hopefully Governor Rick Perry gave Lexus a pardon for the slight when he handed out the fat tax breaks which enticed the company to pull up stakes in the Golden State.
