Lexus to Announce RC F Sport at Geneva Motor Show
Official word is that the Lexus RC F Sport coupe will be officially revealed at March’s Geneva Motor Show.
The F Sport moniker has honestly, been little more than a novelty with Japanese automakers (looking at you Toyota/TRD) being especially guilty of selling “performance” packages that offer little more than a slight suspension adjustments, some visual upgrades, and overpriced aftermarket wheels.
Now, it’s 2014. The Germans have long since jumped on the bandwagon with their own offerings (Audi’s S Line and BMW’s recently introduced “MPA” edition vehicles). Lexus has been on a hot streak as of late, which I appreciate. With all the exciting news surrounding the astonishing RC / RC F coupes, it’s only a matter of time before the F Sport makes its way into the RC350 marketing materials. Official word from Lexus is that the RC 350 F Sport will “feature more than just unique exterior and interior. They will also “sport enhanced driving dynamics.” Taking a look at the list of Lexus’ IS F Sport add-ons indicates these hints may hit right on the button:
- 18 inch alloy wheels
- Suspension tuning
- F Sport exterior styling (grille, foglamp delete, badges)
- Projector headlamps
- LFA-inspired digital instrumentation
- F Sport bolstered/heated seats
- F Sport steering wheel trim and shift knob
- Aluminum pedals and silver interior trim
- Upgraded brake pads
Early to tell, but you can color me blue since I’m assuming the new F Sport package will follow the same formula (at least BMW’s MPA line will see small hp bumps).
It does, however, open up some interesting discussion on whether a performance vehicle to bridge the gap between the 300hp RC350 and the 480hp RC F is possible, or even desirable. What do you think?
