Lexus Sells More Cars Per Dealer Than Anyone Not Named Toyota
Automakers may be breaking record sales levels, but Lexus has hit another milestone that other luxury brands just can’t match. Aside from its parent, Toyota, Lexus sells more cars out of each dealership than every other brand in the America.
Dealers here in the states managed to shift 1,325 units monthly on average. To put that into perspective, Subaru only managed to shuffle 825 cars per dealer.
I’ve given Lexus a lot of crap about how it may be running its business, but it seems that a multi-billion dollar corporation really does know more than some schmuck with a keyboard. In all fairness, my criticism does come from a good place. I want to see Lexus succeed, make even greater cars, and reach even loftier sales goals. Still, it is nice to see that they are doing so well, even if they are ignoring my advice.
If you are wondering why the focus on units per dealer versus overall sales, it has to do with profitability. If a dealer can move a lot of units, that dealer turns a larger profit. That money can then be invested back into the dealership for nice facilities, more employees, better employee training, and more. All this improves the dealership experience for buyers, which should help push sales.
This number can also serve to judge how many dealerships are actually needed. For example, Cadillac has 928 dealerships compared to 235 for Lexus. The result was a mere 183 cars per dealer for Cadillac, and many of those franchises lost money.
So congratulations Lexus. I may chide you for what I think are some stupid choices, but I just want the best for you. I’m just glad to see things are working out for you.
But seriously, would 40 more horsepower in the GS F have killed you?
