Super StrEAT 2018

The Eastern San Jose came alive at the 2018 Super StrEAT Meals N Wheels event earlier this year. Top-rated automotive magazine – Super Street, teamed up with reputed car-meet organizer Cary Inayoshi to put it all together. It all went down in the main parking lots of the Eastridge Center, and the turnout was great despite the fact that the event had only been promoted for a week. The venue was perfect for the event because the Eastridge Center parking lots are expansive.

The Resurrection of Wheels-N-Meals

Cary is the brains behind the Wheels N Meals car meets that had been running from 2010 until 2014 in San Jose. The Wheels N Meals formula was simple – awesome cars and good food from some of the best food truck vendors in the area, and the Super StrEAT event employed the same principle. Cary had stopped doing to the Wheels N Meals car meets for a while to give attention to his annual Shukai car show, so the Super StrEAT event was, in a way, a successful attempt at resurrecting the Wheels N Meals events.

A Sea of Cars

The Wheels N Meals car meets were quite popular in San Jose area; they drew car buffs from several other towns in Northern California. When the meets stopped in 2014, car enthusiasts had to make do with the few other events of the NorCal car scene, and but none of them quite captured the spirit of Wheels N Meals. Therefore, when the word went out about the Super StrEAT event, car buffs from the entire area came out in droves. The selection of vehicles was vast and diverse, featuring modified cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and even bikes of different types and brands.

Great Food

Having been a food truck owner in the area before, Cary used his connections to get some of the top-rated food trucks in the area to come to the Super StrEAT event. One of them was the green TasTeeBytes food truck that is loved for its Rajun Cajun bacon dog, pulled pork fries, and veggie burgers. Enthusiasts also swarmed around the Rice Rockit food truck that served exceptional Rice Rockit Chicken, which is in essence specially-seasoned chicken karaage served over rice and with some pickled cucumbers on the side. For those with an affinity for Mexican food, there was the TAKOZ MOD MEX gourmet food truck that is run by Chef Gabriel Guizar. They served the crowds with tasty, top-notch el burritos, el takos, la tortas, and la quesadillas. Yet another food truck that graced the event was the Seoul of Taipei food truck that served gourmet Taiwan and Korean food. Their most famous dish is a sumptuous short rib rice bowl with homemade gravy.

One of them was this Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63/65 SUV with enhanced carbon-fiber fenders and massive wheels with menacing off-road tires. Its customized heavy-duty suspension lift kit made it stand head and shoulders above most of the other vehicles at the event.
