Taking Over the World

SUVs are taking over the market and there is no stopping it. Lexus has been one of the top sellers of SUVs for years, with the high-seated vehicles resulting in over 66% of their sales last year. Manufactures are molding the class into new horizons and producing exciting and interesting new vehicles in the process. This has resulted in the creation of unique sub-segments that produce cars like the Lamborghini Urus and Bently Bentaga. Lexus, one of the leaders in the luxury SUV segment, is reportedly looking to follow suit by producing its own 'super' SUV.

Breaking Into the Market

Spyder7 of Japan reports that Lexus will be working on a new flagship vehicle to compete with the Lamborghini Urus. As much of an undertaking as that may be, it is not anything that Lexus is not capable of achieving. Remember, this is the brand that made the LFA not too long ago.

Got Them on Power

The base model is rumored to have a 3.5L V6 sporting two turbos and two electric motors to produce a combined 424 horsepower or 316 kilowatts.

A high-performance F version will be the one to steal customers from the Italians, however. In this sportier version, Lexus will be providing us with a 4.0L twin turbo V8 coming from the projected LC F. This new Lexus engine is thought to roll out with more than 660 horsepower, even more than the Urus’s 641 horsepower. It’s a good place to start when trying to muscle out an established brand such as Lamborghini. Even though the performance SUV is a new segment, anything wearing the Italian nameplate is going to create more interest. To take down the large names in the game right now, Lexus will have to come out swinging with everything they have.

Based on LT-1

Released back in January, the LT-1 was a hint at the Japanese manufacturer's future. One can expect that the future performance SUV will be based on these design themes. The LQ trademark that Lexus procured earlier this year is also a pretty good assumption of what this vehicle will be named. Lexus’s naming system is fairly easy to understand, the last letter designates the style of vehicle. “S” means sedan, “C” equals coupe, and “X” is used for SUVs. With this new SUV being lower, sleeker, and far more special than any other current Lexus SUV, the use of a new letter designator may be called for.

Pricing

Rumors are that Lexus will be pricing the powerful SUV just below the Lamborghini, to undersell the competition with a potentially superior product. The Urus MSRP starts at almost exactly $200,000. Expect to see the base LQ start somewhere around $130,000 and the high-performance F Sport version to come in somewhere around $150,000.
