It's All New, Really

Oftentimes, automakers bat around the term "all-new" maybe a little too freely. But there's no denying the fact that the 2019 Lexus ES sedan is quite deserving of that description. Everything, from the styling to the interior and underpinnings is truly new, and we'd say much improved. But now that a few Club Lexus owners have gotten their hands on a new ES, we were curious to see what they think about it in this very interesting thread.

Leaps and Bounds

Club Lexus member wing kicks things off with overall good impressions. "I just picked up a 2019 ES350 F-Sport to test, so far it's pretty impressive and a huge leap over the previous gen IMO."

Remote Annoyance?

One thing that several members don't like is the fact that the new ES shuts off the engine if you remote start the car and then open the door. But jimv1983 points out that there's a reason why Lexus built this into the car.

"I think that's a security measure so no one can steal the car. Personally, it won't bother me that much. My main reason for wanting it is to cool it down in the summer and warm it up it the winter. When I get to work I'll just leave the heater/AC and seat warmer/cooler on. When I'm ready to walk out of the office I remote start. By the time I get to the car, it will be a perfect temp. It won't change much in the few seconds it takes me to get in and turn it back on."

Super Sensitive

Another common gripe relates to the touchpad, which some members found a touch too sensitive, even with the sensitivity turned all the way down. But most feel like they're able to get used to it, and they admit that it's mostly because this is something new and unfamiliar.

Infotainment

There are quite a few positives to note regarding the rest of the infotainment layout in the new Lexus ES, however. "I do like the location of the screen," said jimv1983. "It's farther up the dash, making it easier to see without taking my eyes off the road. However, that causes the downside of a touch screen not really working because of how far you'd have to reach. The touchpad isn't great, but of all the non-touch screen opinions, I think it is the best I've used. I've been in cars that have the rotating dial or the old sliding joystick that Lexus used before the touchpad. Both of those are worse in my opinion."

Let the Sun Shine

Lots of members rave about the 360-degree camera system, heads-up display, and the copious amounts of light afforded by the panoramic sunroof. Though AnthonyMJ has one small problem (if Lexus is listening!) "Since it lifts up and slides back, I can't leave it cracked in the rain like I could my GS."

Eye Pleasing

Most Lexus fans are also attracted to the new ES for its typical high-quality fit and finish. AnthonyMJ even noticed something that most of us probably never would.

"The leather and soft surfaces of the trim appear to my eye to actually be a deep charcoal gray more than true black. Most people probably wouldn't even notice. But, as an artist, I'm particularly attuned to color. I was not expecting to like the black interior because I was thinking it was a black-motorcycle-jacket color. Pleasantly surprised."

Hold Up

Member mikemu30 also raved about the quality of the materials in his new ES F-Sport. "I was a bit reluctant to go for the F-Sport due to the Nuluxe-only choice, but now that I have it, I can already tell how much better it will hold up compared to the real stuff. And honestly, you'd never know from the way it feels that it's synthetic."

Not Your Android

Sadly, like all Lexus vehicles, the new ES isn't Android Auto compatible. But AnthonyMJ has found a way to get around that little quirk. "I simply paired my Android phone with audio and have access to my music as well as Google Map directions audio, but I still have to look at the phone for video. Can't wait until Beat Sonic gets their 7th gen screen mirroring device to market. It works like a dream."

Too Good?

Overall, it seems like our members have little to dislike about the new ES and plenty to like. And we think that mikemu30 sums it up best. "Here's the only thing I find annoying about the new ES - I love it so much, I can't stop driving it. Already 1,500 miles in the first month or so!"
