Special UX 250h Debuts at Monterey Car Week

Monterey Car week

Lexus is making its presence known at Monterey Car Week with not one but two vehicles. The first is a bright yellow LC and the second, the focus of this article is a powder blue UX with some choice mods. The special UX250h has a bright blue wrap and a custom roof rack. Other mods on the car are an Apexi N1 EXV Damper Suspension, catback exhaust system, NIA Auto Design ABS lip kit, Vossen VFS-1 wheels and Nitto Invo tires.

Not all that far from the concept

Lexus first dropped the good news at the 2016 Paris Auto Show when they announced that the futuristic-looking at the time concept, the Lexus UX, was finally going to make it to a real production car. The news came from Lexus International Executive Vice President Yoshihiro Sawa, who explained the newest addition to the Lexus crossover line will target the younger segment of consumers.

Those were some weird seats

The production version of the UX looks way more toned-down from that crazy, futuristic design that we all saw at the Paris show. Some sources claim the Lexus UX will replace the CT hatchback, as it is similar in size, and carries a hybrid powertrain as an option. Based on the photos, if the real version is half as cool as the concept, it should be a great substitute for the pedestrian CT. The biggest change that we see so far is how far it has come from the anti-summer / heat rubberband seats to something more realistic and plush.

Model variations

The Lexus UX will offer three models: The UX 200 with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder motor, the UX250 with a larger 4 cylinder, and the UX 250h with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. Looking at the Toyota C-HR, which it will likely share some components with, that means you can expect about 150 hp in the lowest spec model, and 175-200 hp in the top spec hybrid version.

Specs and competition

The Lexus UX Concept measures 173.2-inches long, 9.1-inch shorter than the Lexus NX crossover, that is currently the smallest in the Lexus line, and 2-inches longer than the CT200h. The UX is extremely close in size to the small German premium SUVs currently offered by the competition, like the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the Audi Q3. The basic size of the concept shouldn't change, however, the exterior styling most definitely will.

Look for the UX to hit showrooms in December of 2018 as a 2019 model.
