The Course

The Nordschleife is one of the toughest tracks on the planet. If not the toughest. Each lap is ~25km with huge elevation changes and uneven pavement often happening several times in the same corner. Start to get sleepy late into the night and the fatigue can knock a team clean out of contention. So what's the most important thing in a race car here?

Reliability

Endurance racing is brutal on equipment. Drivers will have to take care to mind the curbs and preserve consumables like brakes, tires and suspension components that can be critically damaged due to shock and jarring. They'll also have to stay out of trouble. Easier said than done when egos flare and you're held up behind rivals at speeds that tap 160mph...and it's raining.

The Car

The weapon in question is a 2UR-GSE powered Lexus that is rear wheel drive only. Gears are shifted through a sequential transmission and the driver line up is an all Japanese team with drivers Takeshi Tsuchiya and Naoya Gamo behind the wheel. Serious racers that bring decades of experience to the table. It’s a great time with a solid shot at victory!

When to Watch

Taking place from May 10th to May 13th the event is broadcasted on YouTube via the “Motorsport 2018” Channel so keep your eyes peeled the weekend of the event for a live stream of some kind!

Heavy Contenders

Toyota and Lexus both have massive prowess at the race track so it will be interesting to see what a full-fledged factory-backed racing effort will look like in a grueling showdown at The Ring come May. Toyota has dominated endurance style racing in the past and with new cars like the Supra debuting, it is good to see them continuing their traditions at the race track!
