The new entry Lexus

With the release of the new Lexus UX, the Japanese luxury maker is taking its first steps into the subcompact crossover category. Built on the same basic platform as the CH-R, the Lexus shares all the good qualities of its Toyota brother while being much more refined and luxurious. The F Sport package offers a sportier ride and a few aesthetic upgrades. But if that is not enough sport for you, Japanese tuning company Modellista has you covered.

Putting the Sport in F Sport

The new kit from Modellista includes front and rear lip add-ons, side skirts, and hood and C-pillar accents. The whole kit will set you back about $2800. However, there is a high likelihood that it will only be sold in Japan.

Mean Mugging Front End

Not too many actual photos of the new kit out and about exist yet, so the official renders from Modellista will have to suffice. The Modellista front lip is a large unit, coming up into the grill and fog light area. It also extends down quite a ways giving the vehicle a lower look. If you were planning on taking your little crossover off-roading (which why would you?) this kit may not be for you.

Elegant Skirts

The Japanese have always seemed to like aggressive side skirt treatment, and the Modellista UX kit is no different. These side skirts lower the bottom body line quite a bit, which is needed to match the front lip. The chrome treatment on the sides matches the front and rear lips and breaks up the massiveness of the side skirts. From the side view here, it becomes painfully obvious that to completely pull off this look, some non-factory wheels are going to be needed.

Aggressive Rear

The rear bumper is the most wildly styled of all the items. With aggressive lines and blacked out sections that resemble vents, the rear bumper looks like it would be more at home on a supercar than a 160hp crossover. Somehow, though, Modellista has managed to massage the lines onto the UX F Sport and make it look eye pleasing.

But wait theirs more

Also available from Modellista for any UX trim are headlight, taillight, and rear door/quarter garnishes. Normally anything involving chrome and double-sided tape is best left on the shelves at the auto parts store. Once again though, just like with the rear bumper, Modellista has proven that it can be done with some class. The way the headlight and taillight trims accentuate the sharp edges of the factory pieces look good and give a nice homage to the Lexus LF-1 Concept.

Not for everyone.

Given the hefty price tag and the aggressiveness of the styling, it is doubtful that Modellista will sell a huge number of its new UX body kits. There are those out there that are going to love it though, and for those that do put their money where their mouth is, the combination of Modellista and Lexus will give them a very unique city runabout that is sure to turn heads and maybe raise a couple eyebrows.
