With a price tag that is not for everyone, the 2018 Lexus LC 500 brings this luxury brand into a new era of design and power. The LC 500 is almost exotic in its look, specs, and features. This sports coupe is much more LF-A than SC 430.
1. Exterior
The exterior of the Lexus LC 500 shares the Lexus grill shape, but otherwise has its own unique style, unlike any other model. Even that grille is quite unique, thanks to its waterfall like bottom, which cascades from a pinched top. The rear fascia treatment is somewhat a variation of the front, and may vaguely remind you of other Lexus cars, it is unlike any other model. The entire exterior is smooth, futuristic, and some have described it as a shiny toy.
2. Interior
The interior of the LC 500 isn't large, but you wouldn't expect it to be with sports coupe like this. The two seats in the front, and two seats in the rear are all surrounded by fine, expensive materials. The seats are attractive, and supportive, thanks to their origami-inspired bolsters. The door panels are covered in finely-stitched leather, and as expected, the LC 500 is equipped with all the latest features and technologies, including the most-advanced infotainment system offered by Lexus.
3. Engine
Under the hood of the 2018 Lexus LC 500 is a powerful eight-cylinder 5.0-liter engine, which develops 471-horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. The naturally-aspirated engine can take the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, all without a turbo. The 5.0 engine works collaboratively with a 10-speed transmission, which is a big part of the 19 mpg combined freeway and city driving rating. Another option, with slightly less power, but better mileage, is the hybrid version, which combines a V6 engine with electric motors, for 354 combine horsepower, and a slightly slower 0-60.
4. Features
There are more features standard on the 2018 Lexus LC 500 that we can cover, however, there are some unique ones that are worth mentioning. For instance, the suspension is a completely new design, adding double-joint multilink set ups, which gives this vehicle exceptional handling. Also, at higher speed, the speed-activated rear wing reduces lift, making for extremely fun high speed cornering capabilities. When you have to slow it down, Lexus equipped the LC 500 with six-piston monoblock aluminum calipers, for safety that matches the performance. Finally, active rear-steering adjusts the angle of the rear wheels depending on the car's speed, making it seem smaller at low speed in tight maneuvers, but longer and more stable during high speed driving.
5. Price
When staring at the 2018 Lexus LC 500 on the car show turntable, the famous question eventually arises: how much is it? The 2018 Lexus LC500 starts at around $92,000 for the V8 powered one. If you decide to go with the LC 500 hybrid, expect to pay more, with a starting price of $96,510. These prices may be hefty, but given that Lexus is aiming to compete with vehicles like the Porsche 911 and the BMW 6-Series, they are competitive.
