Hey there, good looking

Well the new ES has been caught out while doing some tests covered in some screwy camo. The redesigned sedan is sporting far more aggressive body panels than we have seen in the past and a sharp sculpted exterior. The angular DNA of the lineup as seen in the new flagship LS and the LC will be present here to strengthen the family ties. The ES is Lexus' second best selling model even with underlying mechanicals from the Camry and the Avalon so we don't think the car will deviate much from that course of planning.

Fine benchmark cars to rival

The next gen ES prototype was caught out testing with an Audi A6 and an E-Class Mercedes to serve as benchmarks for where Lexus wants the car to match with. The new ES, much like the 2018 Camry and the next-gen Avalon will ride on Toyota's New Global Architecture platform. This will allow the vehicle to sit lower and wider to give the driver a more dynamic drive. Just like the current ES, the forthcoming model will use the longer wheelbase of the Avalon in order to maximize the room at the rear.

Maybe Lexus will surprise us with a different engine?

The base engine of the car will most likely be the 3.5-liter V6 that's carried over from the standard ES350. That V6 produces 268 horsepower and 248-pound feet of torque. Front-wheel drive will come standard, while an all-wheel drive variant will be very likely. The ES will most likely get the new 8-speed automatic that will replace the old six-speed system. I am hoping that the new platform will lend itself better handling that Lexus will use as an excuse to put better suspension parts on.

Pretttttttty, pretttttttttty, pretttttty good

The new ES, even with camouflage looks to be very promising. The luxury car has spanned for six generations now and has been the best selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years. With the comfort luxury segment on lock, the ES plays no games when it comes to interior amenities, cabin quietness, and ride quality.

When can we possibly see it unwrapped?

There currently aren't any reports on how and when we will see an official debut of the new ES but rumors circulating say that it could be at the 2018 NYAS. The car would debut as a 2019 model, priced a little higher than today's iteration of the ES which starts at just under $40,000 for the ES350 and $42,815 for the ES300 hybrid. The upcoming lineup will be something to see with the new larger 2018 LS, the futuristic UX crossover, and the supercar LC F.
