Racier Version of the RC F Spotted on the Nurburgring
A hopped up RC F was spotted in Germany hitting the track hard to test out components for Lexus. Is this a new RC F or perhaps a test car for something more?
Something new from Lexus?
Well well well Lexus, while the collective eyes of the automotive world were trained on Frankfurt you sneaky folks went and tested a new car. Well, new in the sense of a variant model. Caught out making the rounds was a spicier version of the RC F that has many whispering of a Nurburgring edition. This story comes to us by way of Autoblog as their spy photographers caught the speedy Lexus out on the famed German track.
There are some changes
On the rear of the car is a larger fixed spoiler that can be made out underneath the camo trim going along with a modified rear bumper that includes a modified diffuser and a new front skirt. The rear could have a wider track and air outlets behind the rear wheels. Those changes could would mean that this version of the RC F is looking to take on segment competitors like the AMG C Class coupe and Audi RS 5.
What lies beneath the surface?
Other exterior changes can't really be seen at this point but underneath the skin, there could be a treasure trove of upgrades going on that we can only guesstimate over. On the other side of the argument, this RC could just be a facelifted vehicle since it was almost four years ago (time sure flies) since the Lexus was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show.
A middle ground between the RC F and LC F?
Enthusiasts online believe that along with the exterior tweaks that Lexus has gone ahead and tinkered with the V8 powerplant to push out a horsepower rating in excess of 500 horsepower to better offset its hefty curb weight. Along with the power boost, the coupe will now come with the engineering lab's latest in adaptive cruise control and driver assist technology.
A fine car indeed
As it stands, the current RC F starts at $64,165 and packs a V8 capable of 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque. The coupe makes the run from zero to sixty in a scant 4.4 seconds with a top speed of almost 170 mph. The powerplant is matched up to an automatic eight-speed transmission with a limited-slip or optional torque vectoring rear differential. A new RC F could hit the market in 2018 as a 2019 model hopefully with more bite and grit to take on the rest of the segment.
