New Lexus LC Sneak Peak and What You'd Do with Lane Assist Valet (photos)

Lexus Lane Valet may be a fake April Fools Day feature, but the LC in the ad is real and looks amazing! Although, it would be great if it could move a slow driver out of the passing lane.

1. Does LC stand for Looking Cool?

The new grand touring coupe from Lexus was used in this ad from the manufacturer as part of its April Fools Day farce. The new Lexus coupe looks amazing while canyon carving through some bends, before we get to the part where a feature I really wish was real gets some shine.

2. Feelings of Angst

Living in Southern California allows you to become intimately familiar with your car because everything is spread out and you have to drive everywhere. With that in mind, now think about the fact that almost every member of a household here has their own car. When you put those two factors together, you have traffic up the proverbial butt. I can't even begin to tell you how infuriating it is to be behind someone who you can see looking down constantly at their phones, even though there is a brand new law against even touching a phone that isn't mounted at eye level. So, I really do wish that the lane valet assist was a real, albeit, secret feature.

3. Chess or Checkers?

Oh, the joy that could be had by LC owners with Lane Valet when they move texters, Sunday drivers, and rubberneckers out of the way, so you can pass in the fast lane just like the good Lord intended. Hell, I bet Lexus could bring in so many frustrated drivers with this feature, that the brand would be forced to add the feature as an option to all Lexus models. Hmmm, that may, however, lead to chaos as well-heeled owners could play chess with one another by moving unsuspecting motorists around on freeways. The new LC looks great in the commercial doing the fake maneuver though.

4. The Skinny on the LC

Enough of my traffic rant, and back to the Lexus at hand - The LC will be hitting showrooms next month priced just under a $100 grand and will be outfitted with a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The car will actually come with the very real Lane Departure Alert and Steering Assist feature that uses a camera mounted on the windshield to track lane markings.

5. LC Trivia

Fun fact about the LC: It is being produced at the same factory that made the 500 Lexus LFA supercars a few years ago. The factory has been overhauled to accommodate the needs of the LC complete with a spiffy new production line that is painted from top to bottom in white. A good portion of the Takumi master craftsmen that built the LFA are on board to work their magic on LC model's carbon fiber components, leather bits, and paint. Once the LC hits the road, you'll at least have something more interesting and quite beautiful to stare at when stuck in traffic with next to one.
