MKIV Supra is on the Rise

It comes as no surprise that the MKIV Supra's desirability has soared since Toyota resurrected the nameplate a few years ago. And with the rise in demand, we've seen these Supras sold for some astronomical numbers recently. With clean examples reaching upwards of $170,000! So when one equipped with an authentic TRD 3000GT body kit popped up for sale, we knew to expect a hefty price tag.

What is the 3000GT?

In 1994, the Toyota Supra race car was TRD's entrant for that year's JGTC (All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship) season. And to commemorate the team's participation in the competition, TRD produced a road-legal version of the race car. It was named the 3000GT, and only 35 examples were built.

The Body Kit

These TRD 3000GT cars feature a wide body kit, which includes custom front and rear bumpers, wider fenders, side skirt, and a distinguishable rear wing. The larger air intake opening in the front bumper allows for twice as much airflow as the standard Supra's. The car also has a flattened floor for improved aerodynamic downforce, and the vented hood round off the body upgrades.

Aerodynamic and Lightweigh

The suspension also received improvements, with the addition of sportier parts. But the engine remained largely unaltered. The focus of the performance upgrades with the 3000GT was geared toward weight-savings and aerodynamics than anything else. The only thing that hints at an increase in power is the extra cooling that is made possible by the larger intake at the front.

3000GT Body

With all of that in mind, if this particular MKIV Supra was in fact of those exclusive 35 original 3000GTs, it would surely have been the highest-priced MKIV sold yet. However, this one started life as a standard Supra, and received the full authentic 3000GT wide body kit, along with several other upgrades and mods.

Up For Grabs

The only thing missing in this setup from the original 3000GT is the smoothed-out floor. The previous owner of this beauty has modified it with plenty of performance upgrades and visual alterations. The full list of mods can be found here in the listing. With 47,000 miles on the clock, this Supra is listed with a price tag of $85,000.
