Reaching for a Million

As you probably already know, the internet famous "Million Mile Lexus" doesn't actually have a million miles on the clock. Yet, anyway. But it's getting pretty darn close, with 983k under its proverbial belt as of now. The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah picked up the sedan a little while back with 900k already on the odometer, and he's been lending it out to other people in an effort to crest seven figures as quickly as possible.

Crossing the Country

The latest stewards of this amazing example of Lexus quality are Ana and Anton, a couple who decided to take it on a spin around America for the greater good. They made it from California to Chicago before the car broke down. But luckily, YouTuber LegitStreetCars was nearby to help out.

The Old Once Over

This also presented the perfect opportunity to give the LS a proper inspection and see just how well (or not well) it's held up. And what gearhead wouldn't want to know how a car with nearly a million miles has fared? So after taking a quick spin in the car, it was put up on the lift and given a full once-over.

Normal Ails

Surprisingly, most of the car's ails are pretty much what you'd expect in any high mileage car. The bushings, particularly those around the control arms and differential, are essentially gone. But that's totally normal and something you'd be quick to replace in any car but this one. Because of science.

Leaky Bits

Other normal bits like wheel bearings have obviously reached the end of their lifespan, too. And pretty much everything containing some sort of fluid is leaking. But we're pretty sure that none of that stuff has ever been replaced, so that's to be expected.

Reading Codes

Next up, the crew hooks up an OBD scanner to find out what sort of codes this LS is throwing up. And surprisingly, it's mostly smog-related stuff that our host obviously doesn't care about. That includes a bad catalytic converter, some issues coming up to operating temp, and a couple other minor quibbles.

Impressive Results

In the end, our inspector passes the LS and deems it roadworthy. Sure, it needs some obvious maintenance. But we're pretty sure that Farah is purposely ignoring that stuff in an effort to see how far he can push this car. And in the end, that only makes these results even more impressive!
