Daily Slideshow: Man Cancels Wedding After Bride to Be Demands Lexus
We've heard of some crazy prenuptial agreements, but this takes things to a whole new level! Read this story and enjoy a slideshow of beautiful Lexus cars.
Married Bliss?
Ah, marriage. The act of finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with is a task ripe with hazards and potentially massive pitfalls. If you do it right, you'll wind up with a life-long partner that makes living a pleasure. Do it wrong, and you could quickly find yourself homeless, penniless, and with a broken view of life. Thankfully, an Arab man narrowly avoided the latter in a rather humorous way, according to a recent story reported by Al Watan.
Not Your Average Mule
In many cultures, dating back to Roman times, it's perfectly acceptable and traditional for either the bride or groom to agree on dowries prior to tying the knot. In other words, they hash out what sort of property or money each brings into the marriage. But instead of offering up a couple acres of fertile land or a young mule, our bride-to-be instead requested that her future husband buy her a Lexus.
Red Flag
In this case, the father of the bride gave his daughter free reign to ask for whatever dowry she wanted. The future husband agreed to those terms, but clearly wasn't expecting what came next. When the student made her demand, the man immediately called off the wedding. Which might seem kind of harsh at first, but this incident set off a few red flags in his mind!
Used Won't Do
According to Al Watan, this unspecified Lexus model request would have set the man back a cool sum of SR460,000, or $122,680 U.S. dollars. So obviously, she wasn't willing to settle for something like a used first-gen LS. Perhaps she had her eye on something like a new Lexus LC?
Fourth Quarter Decision
You've got to at least hand it to the Saudi man for recognizing what might be a big problem in the future. And one that most of us married guys are quite familiar with. Reportedly, the man had "no issues" with his future bride as a person, but found her pre-marital demands "troubling" and a sign that things might get worse after marriage. And he was probably right!
