New name... same car

To keep things competitive in the luxury SUV segment Lexus is giving updates to the compact NX. The NX 200t is now becoming the NX 300 along with the front and rear of the vehicle receiving modest changes as well. Although, in some cases, you'll have to squint to see what those changes were. But just trust us, they are there. As far as the name switch from the 200t to the 300, Lexus says the power plant for the vehicle will basically "remain the same" as will the straight line performance.

Look ma, no hands!

Out back, a new for 2018 feature is an optional foot-operated rear hatch. Now you can not only open but close the hatch door with a wave of the foot underneath the rear bumper cover. The taillights have been elongated to better show off the DNA of the L-shaped lenses that you'll see displayed across the Lexus lineup. The F Sport's Active Sound Control brings in the engine burble from the exhaust through the speakers into the cabin.

New creature comforts

Speaking of the cabin, almost all of the controls and switches including the handles, shift knob, and drive-mode selector are all done with a Metallic Satin Sport finish. The size of the infotainment screen has been bumped up from 7 inches to 10.3 inches along with an easier to use HVAC controls. The wireless charger tray is bigger to accommodate mini-tablets and larger smartphones alike so that owners can throw whatever device in for easier storage. If you buy the F-Sport variant then you will have the option to get an all new Circuit Red interior color.

The Nimble Crossover

The spindle grille is as bold as it has ever been but now it flows with the vehicle much more nicely since the entire front fascia has been redesigned. The headlights on the NX has been upgraded as well with the units now very similar to the triple-projector ones found on the new LC coupes.

Digging in the parts bin

The hybrid NX 300h will offer as a standard electronic on-demand AWD. Performance upgrades for the NX come in the form of the suspension tuning and the addition of Adaptive Variable Suspension system that is based on the one in the LC 500. Other parts that are getting a facelift are the shocks, springs, stabilizer bars and bushings which have been retuned for improved response and handling.

Lexus is truly impressed with how the NX has performed since it has sold twice as much as projected for the brand. The 2018 NX will go on sale later this year.
