Symphony of Awesomeness

Most consider the Lexus LFA to be the best-sounding car in history, or at least near the top of the heap in that regard. Its high-revving, F1-inspired V10 simply screams, and that is on full display in this amazing drag race against a newer Audi R8. Since this particular R8 is also equipped with a V10, it's nothing less than a symphony of awesomeness.

Old vs New

As such, it really doesn't matter which of these cars actually wins the drag race, now does it? After all, we always expect the newer car to win a showdown like this, and the LFA isn't getting any younger. The Audi R8 has more power, the traction advantage of all-wheel-drive, and a quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission, to sum up just a few advantages.

Meet the Contenders

Regardless, let's take a look at how these two cars match up on paper. The Audi R8 features a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that produces 620 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque in top-spec. That's good enough for a 0-62 mile-per-hour run of 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 204 mph.

Challenger

The LFA, on the other hand, utilizes an N/A 4.8-liter V10 that produces 552 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. It takes 3.6 seconds to reach 60 miles-per-hour (3.8 to 62 mph), and the LFA will top out at 202 mph if you keep your foot planted to the floorboard long enough.

Fairly Even

Despite these specs, the LFA actually leaps out to an early lead right off the line. Interestingly enough, the two cars are pretty much neck and neck until they're a good distance down the track, at which point the Audi uses its power advantage to reel in the Lexus.

Pretty Close

Near the top end, the R8 overtakes the Lexus, but at the finish line, it's incredibly close. The Audi crosses the line with maybe a car length or one and a half on the LFA, which isn't much considering its many on-paper advantages.

Impressive Feat

Not too shabby for a car that's now almost nine years old, we'd say. The LFA is still impressive despite its age, but we'd certainly love to see a redo. Just imagine what a new model could do with the benefit of today's tech?
