Off-Roading in Style

With a few modifications, the Lexus GX 470 has proven to be a capable, and luxurious, off-road performer. If you have gone the route of upgrading some of the suspension bits, tires, and wheels on your GX470 to better traverse the trails, modifying the body is the next logical step. One worthwhile upgrade that can garner additional ground clearance and front-end protection is the Goblin 4X4 front bumper offered by Metal Tech.

An Integrated Bumper Solution

No off-road bumper blends as seamlessly into the front of the GX470 as the Metal Tech 4X4 "Goblin" bumper. Metal Tech is very open about their use of 3D computer aided design that allowed them to design the piece to fit high and tight, thus giving it a factory look. Notice how the bumper closely follows the contour of the grille and headlights, before ending nicely in line with the front fenders.

Sturdy Construction

The Metal Tech bumper does a great job of combining the strength and protection needed for going off-road into a lightweight package. Their design uses multiple steel sheets that vary in thickness to provide strength where it is needed, while also reducing the overall weight of bumper. In fact, many claim the Metal Tech unit is the lightest steel bumper on the market, only beat by lower-strength aluminum bumpers that some other manufacturers offer.

No Modification Necessary

Perhaps one of the biggest selling points of the Goblin bumper is that it is a 100% bolt-on piece that requires no cutting or welding to install, so you can easily put your Lexus back to stock later if needed. To install this robust bumper simply remove the stock bumper cover and crash bar, then install new bumper brackets/winch mounts with accompanying hardware. Then just bolt on the new heavy-duty Metal Tech bumper. The estimated install time is 3-4 hours, however, some have reported it taking just half as long as advertised.

The Metal Tech Goblin Bumper is also built to accept many winch setups, and does a great job of keeping them concealed. Additionally, the bumper has two recessed pockets for optional LED lights that can directly wire into the stock fog light harness. The top-center portion of the bumper has an opening to accommodate a 25" wide light bar for those who require additional lighting output, or can be covered with an optional block-off grille. Metal Tech offers various added options to meet the needs of any customer.

A Worthy Upgrade

Overall, the Goblin Bumper really gives the GX470 a masculine look that is ready to take on the toughest off-road trails. Not only does the Lexus gain additional ground clearance with this bumper, but it also receives additional protection from brush, and parking lot dings. The added provision for extra lights and accessories are also very useful, if needed. Check out some of Metal Tech's other cool products to put the finishing touches on your GX470 off-road build.
