Some Complaints

Lexus has forged a stellar reputation for reliability since its debut, routinely cranking out vehicles that can easily rack up hundreds of thousands of miles with zero issues. However, every vehicle has its quirks, and according to Consumer Reports, that also includes the brand new 2022 Lexus NX.

Electronic Door Releases

For starters, Consumer Reports found that the new NX's electronic door releases present a bit of a delay between the time one presses the button and when the door opens. Additionally, the interior door latch can be difficult to find in the dark, too.

Side and Rear Visibility

The NX utilizes smaller windows both on its sides and in the rear as well, which causes visibility issues for some. Thick roof pillars don't help matters much, though this sort of problem is common on a lot of vehicles that prioritize styling over visibility.

Gear Selector

CR also isn't a fan of the 2022 NX's electronic gear selector, which isn't terribly intuitive to use. Reviewers found it a bit too easy to accidentally put the crossover in neutral when they were trying to shift from reverse to drive, which can be quite annoying, while one must also press the "P" button to put It in park.

Braking Distance

Strangely, while regular ICE-powered NX models have adequate brakes, the hybrid models didn't perform quite as well in testing. Gas-powered crossovers took just 127 feet to stop from 60 mph, while the hybrids needed 138 feet to do the same thing.

Brake Feel

Then there's the issue of brake feel. Reviewers found that the hybrid's brakes felt spongy at both higher speeds, and a bit touchy at lower speeds as well. When they initially started braking at high speeds, it didn't feel like anything was happening, in fact.

Excellent Overall

Regardless, Consumer Reports found the 2022 NX to be quite satisfying overall, ranking it among the better compact luxury crossovers on the market today. However, those in the market for such a vehicle should be aware of its quirks, at the very least.
