Flashback Friday: Celica Supra Modern Remaster

The A60 Supra is a bit underrated compared to its predecessors, but it sure looks good in this more modern form.

Underrated Supra

The newest Toyota Supra is undoubtedly a fine sports car, but many still pine for the old days. And who can blame them? Regardless, when you talk about "older" Supra models, everyone immediately points to the A80, while few ever talk about the earlier A60 Celica Supra. That's a shame, really, because these are great-looking cars that deserve more attention, and that's precisely what this rendering from WB.Artist is all about.

Unlikely Outcome

The idea here is - what is Toyota decided to give the newest Supra the lines of the A60 instead of going all modern? And the result is pretty cool, in our humble opinion. The Celica Supra is a great-looking car, and we'd love to see it make a comeback of sorts in the future, as unlikely as that is to happen.

Peak 1980s

The great thing about the Celica Supra is that its styling perfectly personified the 1980s, with decidedly square lines, pop-up headlights, a rear wing mounted over the rear window, and bumpers that stick out in the name of safety. Forget about boring, egg-looking crossovers, this was peak design decades ago.

Two Worlds

And that design magic is exactly what WB.Artist attempted to recreate this rendering. Many of those beloved A60 styling cues are still on display here, all meshed in with the overall look of the current Supra. While many similar experiences fail miserably, this one actually turned out pretty good, we think.

Belonging

Somehow, the lines of these two very different cars actually match up quite well. The sides of the new Supra are quite curvy compared to the A60, which makes it a seemingly impossible task, and yet, that boxy front and rear section blend in like they belong there in the first place.

Perfect Blend

And who knew the Celica Supra's front grille would match up with the lower bumper of a new one? Regardless, we have to give the credit to the artist that put this rendering together, because it could have been a mess. Instead, he managed to blend together two very different designs that wouldn't appear to go together well at all at first glance.
