1. All-New Lexus UX

Back in 2016, Lexus unveiled a new mid-sized concept SUV for the world to see. Since then, the UX's styling has been a bit subdued for the production model. It comes with all-new efficient engines, a sportier gearbox, a new four-wheel drive system, and more safety than ever before.

The UX is supposed to nestle right at $30,000 when it hits showrooms. Expect huge amounts of customization, trim levels, performance and hybrid variants, and superior quality.

2. Engine

Lexus is debuting its new “Dynamic Force” 2.0-liter I-4 with a 40% thermal efficiency. That means that it will be one of the most efficient luxury crossovers when it is sold later this year. That engine will make 168 horsepower but that's just the base engine's output. Opt for the UX 250h and the horsepower jumps a whopping 8 horsepower thanks to its battery aid.

3. Platform

Lexus is calling the UX's platform the GA-C (Global Architecture-Compact). It is the first time Lexus has ever used it and will definitely be implemented on future models to come. Toyota has used this platform before in some of its cars such as the Prius and C-HR (called TNGA). The new platform is lighter and therefore, more efficient to drive. It also will have the lowest center of gravity out of any car in its class, which means good handling!

4. Gearbox

The 2019 Lexus UX will come with only one transmission: a CVT automatic. It is smooth and almost entirely unnoticeable. Get the F-Sport model and the shifts will purposely be silenced to give the car a transmission-less feel. Lexus wants the passengers to feel as if they are driving a car with no gears--they want it that smooth.

The UX also has various driving modes from Eco, Normal, Sport, and Sport+ modes which adjust the transmission timing, suspension height, and damping accordingly. In Sport+ mode, the Sonic Interaction Design kicks in which gives a more thunderous tone. Switch it back to Eco or Normal modes, and the car will become soft and comfortable again. Basically, the UX has dual personalities!

5. All-Wheel Drive

The 2019 UX will have AWD if you spec the 250h trim. Lesser models will be front-wheel drive only. The AWD system takes power from the rear battery and powers the rear wheels that way. The front axle will be powered by the engine itself. Under speeds of 43 mph, the UX can send 80% of the power to the back wheels if it detects a loss in traction.

6. Predictive Efficient Drive

The future is now! Cars can officially analyze your driving style and patterns to maximize engine efficiency. It also analyzes road conditions to make sure the battery is working at under optimal conditions and with the most efficiency. The car also has a Predictive Deceleration Support function which takes data from your location and driving trends to make sure it uses battery regeneration to the max. If the car knows a set of red lights is coming, it will prep the battery to initiate regeneration for the best braking performance.

Basically, the car is always learning and adapting to make your driving experience the best it possibly can be.
