Best Lexus to Watch an Eclipse
Got eclipse fever? Grab your AAS approved glasses or modified cereal box, hop in one of these Lexus vehicles, and enjoy the show.
1. Total Eclipse of the Heart
2. Panoramic Views are the Best
If you own a Lexus RX here in the states, chances are you've got a pretty nifty eclipse viewing machine already. Just recline back in that 10-way adjustable driver's seat and enjoy the show. Whether or not you choose to flip the switch and let that outer sliding glass roll back for an unobstructed view of the ominous sky.
3. But Advanced Panoramic Views are Even Better
The RX's panoramic sunroof is undoubtedly awesome. But the advanced panoramic sunroof Europeans get in Lexus' crossover is even better. Mostly because it's one giant sheet of glass that eliminates that awkward bar in the middle. We just wanted to point this out because it's awesome, and we need this option stateside. Maybe in time for the next eclipse in 2024, Lexus?
4. SC-the Solar System in Style
Then again, there's probably no more stylish way to view the eclipse than in the long departed Lexus SC430. The retractable hardtop convertible offers up plenty of comforts, obviously. But you'll also be the coolest guy at the eclipse viewing party when you roll in and let the roof work its magic. At least until you get tired of wearing those goofy looking glasses, anyway.
5. See the (Outer) World in a Sedan
Then again, you don't have to own a convertible or an SUV to enjoy the eclipse from the comfort of a Lexus. The panoramic sunroof available in the ES is quite a nice bit of kit as well. Whether you sit in the front or the back, there's plenty of room to see one of the solar system's most incredible shows. But no matter which Lexus you use to view the eclipse, don't be the person who suffers eye damage because they underestimate its impact.
The only time that the Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye is during a total eclipse, when the Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun. It is never safe to look at a partial or annular eclipse, or the partial phases of a total solar eclipse, without the proper equipment and techniques. If you can't resist, be sure and pick up the proper eyewear as recommended by NASA. Refer to the American Astronomical Society (AAS) Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters & Viewers(link is external) page for a list of manufacturers and authorized dealers of eclipse glasses and handheld solar viewers verified to be compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for such products.
