1. Don't Text and Drive

Texting and driving are simply getting out of control, and although you may think you are good at it, you can crash when you least expect it. Getting rear-ended at red lights is now becoming a trend, so save yourself the lawsuits, the tickets, and the hassles and STOP texting and driving. A good technique is to put your phone somewhere where you can't reach it, this way you won't get any distractions or temptations.

People underestimate the importance of seat belts until they see others get thrown out of their cars when they crash. You may think your IS's cozy seats are holding you in place, but you're always on the verge of flying if you or someone else make a mistake. Fasten your seat belt, and give yourself the best chance at making it home safely.

3. Don't Drink and Drive

At this point, and in this modern day and age, no one should be told not to drink and drive, because it is simply common sense. If you get caught drinking and driving, you will be thrown in jail, you will have approximately $13,000 in debt, and you will lose your license, and that's the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is crashing into someone else, and even if you have 0.01% alcohol in your blood, it will automatically be your fault because you have alcohol in your system in the case of a crash.

4. Keep Calm

Driving in traffic could get frustrating, and as soon as people start cutting you off and tailgating you, you start feeling the need to explode. Always take a few breaths before snapping, you would be surprised how many lifted truck owners don't mind giving your car a nudge with theirs. Avoid road rage and control your own rage so you don't have to deal with the police, the insurance, or any crazy people you may encounter.

5. Don't Speed

Nothing good comes from speeding, and if you think you'll get to where you're going faster, think again. Speeding through traffic is like waving a red-flag and begging police officers to pull you over, and when they do see your red-flag, you'll have a hefty fine to pay. The odds are, you will go fast, stop at the red light, then you'll see the car you passed earlier pulling up next to you, then realize you've wasted extra fuel for nothing. So watch your speed, enjoy the drive, and treat yourself to something nice with the money you are saving on speeding fines.
