7 Fast Cars That the LC 500 Blows Away
The LC 500 emphasizes style and balance over everything else. But that doesn't mean it isn't fast.
1. Audi S4
Any time you see an Audi with an "S" badge, you know you're getting something with serious performance. And the hot version of their wildly popular A4 is no exception. With a supercharged, V6, the S4 can run from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. But that isn't good enough to edge out the LC 500, who's 5.0 liter V8 pushes the coupe to 60 miles per hour in just 4.3 seconds.
2. Ford Mustang GT
The Mustang isn't really any sort of competitor for the LC 500, but it is well known for power and speed. That's why it's somewhat surprising that Ford's iconic V8 powered muscle car lags behind Lexus' new coupe in acceleration. The Mustang GT, with a 435 hp 5.0 liter V8, is one tenth slower than the Lexus, recording a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds.
3. Porsche Cayman GTS
The Cayman GTS represented the last of a dying breed. Porsche's compact sports car now utilizes a four-cylinder engine in place of that glorious flat six. But despite a bump in power over the base model, the GTS took 4.4 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. And despite its legendary pedigree, that just isn't quite good enough to outrun the LC 500.
4. Aston Martin DB9 GT
With a 12 cylinder, 540 horsepower engine, a supercar pedigree, and a $200k price tag, you'd think that the Aston Martin DB9 GT would be wicked fast. But it's really more of a GT car, and it's bloated 4,000+ pound curb weight slows things down a bit. That means the Aston takes a full 4.4 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour, a time that the LC 500 can best for less than half the price.
5. Jaguar F-Type S Coupe
The F-Type is actually direct competition for the LC 500 as a great looking luxury sports coupe. But there's no competition in the acceleration department, even if you spring for the S model F-Type. The Jag can only muster a 4.9 second run from 0-60. If you want to outrun the Lexus, you'll have to spring for the F-Type R, but it'll cost you over $30,000 more than the LC 500.
6. Maserati Quattroporte S
Maserati's "entry level" Quattroporte bases out at a full $13,000 more than the LC 500, but it doesn't come close to matching it in acceleration. The Italian luxury sports sedan employs a twin turbo, 4.0 liter V6 in that guise, and takes 4.4 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. Sure, you can opt for the V8 powered GTS, which only takes 4.2 seconds to get there. But it bases out at a whopping $146,000.
7. Mercedes AMG C43
Mercedes' AMG division is known for building snarling, performance versions of already competent vehicles. The compact C43 is no exception, using a twin turbo 3.0 liter V6 and all-wheel drive to up the fun quotient. The 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque produced by that free revving motor contribute to a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds, and it takes the C43 13.2 seconds to complete the quarter mile.
