What's to like

The 2019 Lexus GX 460 is a modernized luxury SUV that drives and performs like a traditional truck. It rides on a body-on-frame structure with a design that dates multiple years back. Here are 6 things that we like in this throwback SUV.

1. Originality

Some think of the GX as a flip phone in a world full of smartphones. It's a tough car that does not conform to the current automotive trends. Its architecture comprises of materials and designs used in pickup trucks. It's also a solid off-roader with suspensions that can tackle all forms of adventure on unpaved roads.

2. A Third Row

For those looking for a luxury SUV with a functional third row, the GX is a great option. Unlike in many SUVs, the third row can actually accommodate adults. Getting behind there might be a little tough but the vehicle does offer more headroom and legroom when compared to the Lexus RX 350L.

3. A Capable V8

The power unit on the GX 460 comprises a majestic 4.6-liter V8 that makes 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque. All that power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.

4. Great Towing Capacity

The body-on-frame architecture used on the GX gives it an advantage over luxury SUVs that ran on a unibody construction. Its towing capacity stands at 6,500 pounds. The only vehicle that betters this in Lexus' lineup of luxury vehicles is the LX which adds an extra 500 pounds.

5. A True Lexus

Lexus cars have a good reputation for their superb reliability and impressive dealership experience. This will definitely keep buyers hooked when it comes to the GX. On top of it all, the SUV does offer a square-shaped body that's quite appealing.

6. Unmatched Off-Road Capability

Behind its all-terrain capability, the GX packs some serious hardware that allows it to tackle all forms of terrain. The suspension features height adjustment settings. The GX also never drives on two wheels at any given time. There's Crawl Control that allows drivers to evade obstacles carefully and slowly while driving off-road. Rock-crawling is supported by a transfer case with four-low setting.
