6 Mods Every Lexus RC Owner Should Jump On

The RC is fairly new in the world, but here are half a dozen things you can do to alter your car to your taste.

1. Tanabe Strut Bar

The installation with this suspension mod is straightforward and pretty easy to do with basic tools. If you're not familiar with what strut bars do, you can expect less lean and body shake going over bumps and dips. For those who wish to keep the price of mods to a minimum, this should be on your short list.

2. Exhaust mods

If you'd like to make your RC sound the way it looks, then I'd like to suggest doing a resonator & muffler delete for the car. Many members of the forum comment on how aggressive and beastly it is. If you're not really into the idea of cutting your exhaust up, then you could purchase an aftermarket system and just switch it out for the stock unit. If you have a lease or know that you will be selling the car at a later date, then this option would be the easier of the two to deal with.

The sound and decibel isn't for everyone and is certainly a departure from what you'd associate with a Lexus, so head over to YouTube and listen to more clips to see if either of these is for you. If this mod does sound like music to your ears then take your RC over to a trusted muffler shop and revamp that exhaust.

3. Suspension

Dropping the height on your RC can not only improve the handling, but also give your car a more sport look that tells the world that you care more about the ride than silly things like the time it takes to hoist yourself out of the cabin. Seriously, if you enjoy taking turns more sharply or want to get the most of your nearest twisty road, then this mod will help tons. Springs can drop the height but then you'll be stuck at that height (static) and all the dangers that come along with it, such as white knuckle driveway navigation. Coilovers on the other hand, give you adjustability that many love since you can dial in whatever suits the moment the best. The factor between these two is a big price difference.

4. Wheels

Fancy or sport? I split wheels into the two categories depending on what your intentions are for the build of your particular RC. You could choose a fancy set of concave wheels that will undoubtedly turn heads or take a set that is lightweight and forged in order to make a mean machine.

Here is a great thread on aftermarket wheel fitments and tires, put together by Club Lexus forum member ba2sy for all those who are curious on what a particular set may look like on your RC before diving in with a purchase.

5. Cold Air Intake

One of the easiest and fastest ways to get some added power to your RC is to add a cold air intake under the hood. Your RC was kept nice and sane to a degree with the stock air filter, but that can be remedied lickety-split with a trip to your favorite aftermarket site along with a crosscheck on Club Lexus to see what unit fits your price range and delivers the results you desire. For your listening pleasure, here is a YouTube clip from an RC350 running a Takeda unit.

6. Weight Reduction

If your RC is strictly for the track then this will be an easy mod, as you can just snatch everything out of the interior...creature comforts included. However, if the RC is your daily driver, then there are still things you can take out to help your pursuits; simply remove anything that's not bolted down. This may sound silly as these items don't seem like much on their own, but a forum member removed and weighed the items to find out that they collectively are about 40 pounds!

Things to take out:

Jack and Tools
Flat Repair Kit
Carpeted Trunk Mat
First Aid Kit
Cargo Net
Vehicle Manual
Front and Rear Mats
Engine Cover
