1. Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota's Land Cruiser is one of the automaker's longest running series for good reason.  Its legendary reliability and longevity has led to incredible popularity and an almost cult-like following.  The Land Cruiser has a legendary off-road capability and is unstoppable in the snow as well.  And while new Land Cruisers can be pretty expensive, good used examples can be had for reasonable prices.

2. Subaru WRX

Anything Subaru makes will handle the snow and ice with no problem, but some Lexus owners prefer something they can have a little fun in.  That fun thing would be the WRX - Subaru's all-wheel drive, turbocharged rally car for the street.  More than your average winter commuter, the WRX is designed to handle slippery conditions at high speed. For a winter beater, it doesn't get much better than that.

3. Honda Civic

The Honda Accord gets an honorable mention here, but the Civic is cheaper and more fuel efficient.  It's ultra reliable, as you'll see tons of Civics out there with hundreds of thousands of miles still out on the road.  High mileage yet smooth running Civics are everywhere, and while you'll pay a bit of a premium over other used cars for a good example, you can rest easy knowing it will run forever.  And they handle pretty well in the slippery stuff thanks to a front wheel drive layout equipped with a set of Blizzaks.

4. Compact Pickups

Trucks, despite the availability of four-wheel drive, tend to have issues gaining traction in the snow due to their lack of weight in the back.  But that doesn't stop lots of Lexus owners from driving them in the winter.  They simply add a little weight in the bed, or just enjoy the lack of traction.  Compact trucks like the Ford Ranger and Chevy S10 are everywhere, they're cheap, and they're fairly reliable.

5. Another Lexus

Fittingly, a lot of Lexus owners simply buy another Lexus to use as a winter beater.  It makes a lot of sense if you think about it.  Even older Lexus models are ultra reliable, comfortable, and they handle the slippery stuff with ease. All-wheel drive can be had on a lot of models if needed.  Plus, you don't have to sell out and suffer through driving one of those other brands.
