5 Ways to Make the Lexus LC Even Better

The LC is already an amazing car. But if Lexus addresses our five minor complaints, it can be even better.

1. Front Lip Liability

With the introduction of the LC, Lexus has single-handedly made the seemingly doomed grand touring car a thing again. It's a fantastic piece of machinery, one that drives every bit as good as it looks. But of course, even the best of things has a little room for improvement. And our feedback is, admittedly rather nit-picky.

For starters, we're a little terrified of that low slung front lip. More specifically, terrified that we'll destroy it on a sloped driveway or curb. Granted, we don't want Lexus to do away with it, but maybe make it retractable? Or perhaps give us a feature like automatic ride height adjustment, or even a warning that it's about to succumb to damage? This is a problem that all sports cars suffer, but it's still a scary proposition for the owner.

2. Fix the Track Pad

The idea behind Lexus' track pad is genius - to mimic the operation of a smart phone. After all, we use those darn things more than anything else in life these days. But the problem is, it doesn't really work as intended. The sensitivity is set way too high, making precise movements virtually impossible. And stuff like seat heating/ventilation should be accessible from the main screen or a button. Changing these settings while driving is pretty difficult, especially with the track pad's sensitivity.

3. Add a Trunk Pass-Through

The Lexus LC is a grand touring machine, not a hyper car. That means Lexus intends for us to drive it. Sometimes long distances. And yet, the trunk isn't necessarily huge. We don't want Lexus to sacrifice style for extra space, but they could have integrated some sort of trunk pass-through when they designed the LC. This would give the driver and passenger much more flexibility when it comes time to take that weekend trip to the mountains. Or when you need to stuff some golf clubs in the back.

4. Cupholder Redo

On the same token, you're sure to want a cup of coffee on your way to the golf course in the morning so you can show off your gorgeous ride. So why does the cupholder design on the LC seem like an afterthought? Sure, the driver has one, but it's too close to the radio and climate control buttons. The passenger, on the other hand, has to make due with that awkward bin under the sliding console cover. We'd just like to have two real cupholders in a more convenient spot, if possible.

5. Offer a Back Seat Delete

Chances are, most owners of the Lexus LC aren't going to try and stuff anyone in the back seat. And that's a good thing, because it won't be easy. Useless back seats are common in most 2+2 sports cars, so this isn't unusual by any means. But we should get the option to order an LC without a back seat if so inclined. As a bonus, this would shave some weight off the already heavy car. And give us empty nesters a little extra storage space!
