5 Things You Should Know About The LC F

A spokesperson for Lexus has said that the rumored LC F will not be debuting at the Tokyo Auto Show, but that could just mean it won't be there, not that it isn't being built at all. Could Lexus still be building its next barn burner, the LC F? Here's what we know so far.

1. Powertrain

The current LC 500 makes due with a 471 hp V8, so clearly that would be the starting point for the LC F. Car & Driver speculates that the LC F will produce 600 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque using an all-new, twin turbocharged 4.0 liter V8. The new powerplant is essentially two 2.0 liter four cylinder 8AR-type engines joined together at 90 degrees. C&D's source also reveals that the new engine would be backed up by Lexus' existing 10-speed automatic transmission.

2. Styling

All Lexus F cars feature unique styling cues that not only differentiate them from non-F cars but also provide aerodynamic benefits. The LC F will be no exception. Its body kit will feature a number of air vents and hood vents, a fixed rear wing, a front splitter, and rear air vents. Air ducts would also be utilized for brake cooling. And of course, the requisite LC F badging will let onlookers know exactly what you're driving.

3. Suspension

The LC F clearly won't just be a straight line performer. In addition to increased downforce added by various aerodynamic bits, the suspension will feature a number of upgrades. Six-piston brake calipers will help slow things down quickly. And the latest supercar tires will be wrapped around a set of 20-inch wheels whose styling will be unique to the LC F.

4. Pricing

We already know that the LC 500 will have a base price of $92,995. But Car & Driver thinks that the LC F could cost nearly twice as much. It may seem shocking, but that number is in line with other Lexus models. For example, the GS base price is around $46,000, yet the GS F starts at just under $84,000. Still, it's a pretty big bargain compared to Lexus' last halo car - the $350,000 LFA.

5. Competition

Lexus has morphed into a company that builds cars that are equally luxurious, reliable, performance-oriented, and unique. But the LC F will undoubtedly be compared to a number of other performance coupes as it would be poised to take the place of the much-adored but limited LFA. Cars like the Porsche 911, Acura NSX, Audi R8, and Mercedes AMG GT all fall into that category. And if it's price indeed inches close to $200,000, the LC F will have to do battle with cars like the McLaren 570. It will be interesting, and exciting, to see Lexus doing battle with heavyweights like these once again.
