Opening doors for new talent

Over three years ago, Super Street and Toyo collaborated for a contest where hopeful photographers could submit their best work and be recognized. The finalists of the contest would be given a spotlight at a free to the public car meet and gallery show. Meanwhile, the grand prize winner would have their winning photo published in Super Street.

Gotta stick to the rules

The guidelines of the original contest were: 1) that the Toyo Tires lifestyle was represented properly, 2) That artistic composition and technical aspects are utilized, and 3) Originality. The winner of that very first event was Viet Nguyen who took home some exclusive Toyo Tires / Crooks & Castles merchandise along with his winning pic gracing the pages of the storied aftermarket mag.

When the sky becomes gold

For the second year, Toyo asked participants to submit photos based on the theme of the "Golden Hour," that being the time of the day when the sun is in a perfect position to provide natural lighting with just the right amount of flare. The top 21 finalists got their photos featured in an issue of Super Street and exhibited in a gallery once again. Tyler Lee won with a rolling shot of a 458 Ferrari for the second year of the event.

Melding two worlds

Stan Chen, Senior Manager of Events and Sponsorships at Toyo Tires, says, "It was a great turnout this year. I especially love this event because it raises awareness and gives amateur automotive photographers a chance to have their work seen on a grander scale. Also, by having some of the top car builds exhibited in the gallery, [it] brings both automotive and art cultures together under one roof."

Free trip to paradise

For this year's event, Toyo Tires wanted to blow everything up bigger and moved the event to Hawaii. This means that the winner of the competition would not only get their photo published in Super Street but would also be flown to the vacation destination where the car meet/gallery would be.

Welcome to the island

The theme of the contest was "Night Shots," which garnered over 300 submissions from contestants. Arizona's own John Bazay took home the honors of being the winner with a beautiful photo of two GT-Rs at a shop. John's and the other 19 finalists' photos were on display at streetwear store in4mation located in Honolulu. The streets outside the store were closed off in order for local cars to be put on display for the event.
