2JZ GTE Inside Crazed Jet Creation

Motivation
Custom car building is an interesting and very rewarding experience, but also a painstaking hobby to have. It can range from as simple as popping on a new set of tires, adding an exhaust system, modifying your engine, or performing any other choice of customization. Yet, there are those who take it a step above and beyond and get really wild. In this case, the builder, Luis Rodriguez, decided he wanted to make "something that looked scary fast while standing still." He decided to do this by combining the design of a Bonneville Salt flat racer with the engine of a jet airplane. To say this car will be fast is quite an understatement.
The exposed engine
The design of the vehicle is quite something that we've never seen the likes of before. The exposed engine and transmission just beams of power and authority. The Volk wheels do well to compliment the overall design and provide the utility to handle the extreme load of this interesting project. There has to be a true appreciation for the craftsmanship and detailed design of the body, like the 3000 rivets placed throughout the aluminum body.

The Cockpit
Luis started this project by breaking down and modifying a Nissan 300ZX. To keep the overall weight
down Luis welded the modded the Z's subframe to a custom 4130 chrome moly tubular chassis. The engine vital display is also really cool because he uses aviation style gauges that come with warning lights. Making the interior as close to that of an actual jet airplane as possible and our inner 5-year-old is screaming with excitement.

Engine setup
The brain behind this monster is a 2JZ-GTE engine. It was produced from 1990 to 2007 and were 24-valve DOHC or dual overhead camshaft. In addition, the engine was incorporated with Wiseco pistons and secured using ARP head studs. The turbo plumbing was simplified by reversing the intake manifold and fed by an Infiniti Q45 throttle body. It came out quite well, one last touch made was the replacement of the twin-turbo setup with a single PTE 6262 regulated by a Tial wastegate.

An exhaust like no other
All in all this interesting Frankenstein like creation boasts about 517 horsepower on low boost. With a higher boost and 93 octane, the monster can output roughly 627 horsepower. It is able to do so by using Driveshaft Shop 1,000 horsepower axles and a 2010 Subaru STi 6-speed transmission. Also, a custom 6061 aluminum transmission adapter plate, ACT 6-puck clutch, and a custom Fidanza flywheel were all used as well. Not to mention there are also custom Speedway coilovers and additional scratch-built suspension pieces also made in order to provide more power transfer. You could say these additional pieces really make the whole thing fly.

Ready for takeoff
Through countless hours of hard work in design, build and assembly everything really came together to make a flying race-car. Inspired by airplanes and Salt flat racers put together by Japanese parts. In the end, you have a really outstanding custom build weighing in at 1650 lbs with a whopping 627 horsepower and a build to like many others.
